[cess.unpad.ac.id, 08/10/2021] Although still in the Covid-19 pandemic, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Biology Department lecturer as well as a researcher at the Center for Environment and Sustainability Science (CESS) Universitas Padjadjaran to make the best contribution in the development of science. This is shown by the publication of a book by Dr. Keukeu Kaniawati Rosada, M.Sc. as the first author and Prof. Sunardi, Ph.D. as co-author entitled Plankton Extraction and Analysis Method.
The book was discussed specifically at an activity held by CESS Unpad entitled Workshop on Book Review: Methods for Retrieval and Analysis of Plankton on 8 October. The activity invited book reviewers from three different fields, namely academics, researchers, and industry in the fields of plankton and aquatic ecology. The three speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Hertien Koosbandiah Surtikanti, M.Sc. ICE. Ph.D., professor of Environmental Biology from the Indonesian University of Education (UPI); Dr. Ir. Lukman, M.Si. from the Limnology Research Center LIPI-BRIN; and Bernard Sihombing, ST. MM., from PT Sucofindo.
The event was opened by the chairman of CESS Unpad, Prof. Parikesit, Ph.D. while at the same time conveying his enthusiasm and hope for the dissected book. “Hopefully with the publication of this book, it can be a guide for students and researchers in the field of aquatic ecology, especially plankton and can spur motivation to continue to work and contribute to the development of science, especially in the field of aquatic ecology in Indonesia,” said Prof. parikshite.
This activity was attended by 231 participants from various circles ranging from students, lecturers, researchers, to industry players. The book review begins with a presentation from the author, namely Dr. Keukeu Kaniawati Rosada. He conveyed the essence of the book he wrote as well as the basic concepts of plankton collection and analysis methods. Dr. Keukeu also hopes that this book can help identify freshwater ecosystem plankton, especially for students engaged in aquatic ecology research.
The speakers presented each review based on a different background. Of course, this is expected to improve the quality of the book and the publication of a revised edition in the future. The book review activity ended with the announcement of the first 100 registrants who were entitled to free books and 3 quiz winners during the book review. The participants also showed great interest during and after the event. Several participants hoped to have the book, both hardcopy (by order) and softcopy (ebook) which are planned to be uploaded on the CESS website. [AN]
